Longitudinal Study – Australian First

John-Mete-KA

Mr John Mete from Woonona High School and Program Manager, Kelly Andrews.

Australia’s first longitudinal study into the impact of media exposure on adolescents’ alcohol-related attitudes and behaviours has concluded after four years of data collection. The study was funded by the Australian Research Council to Chief Investigator Prof Sandra Jones $165,000.  A pilot phase was undertaken in 2012 followed by three further years of data collection; following a cohort of students in six NSW secondary schools.  The participating schools were Campbelltown High School of the Performing Arts, Warilla High School, Dapto High School, Wonoona High School, Albion Park High School and Ulladulla High School.  Analysis will examine young people’s exposure to multiple forms of ‘new’ and ‘old’ forms of alcohol advertising and their effects on alcohol related attitudes and behavior.
